The Microsoft SAM Optimization Model utilises the ISO/IEC 19770-1 Standard as its foundation and focuses on the key process areas from the Standard that will deliver the most benefits to an organisation in establishing an effective SAM program. It identifies ten key competencies as being the most critical processes and defines four maturity levels (Basic, Standardised, Rationalised and Dynamic) to assess the strengths, weaknesses and overall maturity of each of those ten key competency areas.
